What do you think about the education law that will be launched in England from August 2024?
The government’s aim is to get more pupils to attend lessons, as statistics show that the more lessons a pupil attends, in person, the more successful they are in their studies. This means that the law only allows students to be absent in special cases, for example, if someone is absent because of a holiday, this is not considered an exceptional circumstance. If a parent takes a child out despite the institution’s prohibition, the school is obliged to notify the authorities, so parents can expect to pay up to £160 on the first fine imposed if, within 28 days, this is met. However, the fine can be reduced to £80 if payment is made within 21 days.
The second fine imposed will be £160 if paid within 28 days. However, if the fine is not paid within 28 days, court proceedings will be launched.
