Something old – something new
But this forthcoming 900-square-metre paradise for assemble-it-yourself fun — which effectively dethrones London’s Leicester Square flagship; as well as bringing the Harbour City on par with the international likes of New York, Hong Kong, and Copenhagen — won’t just be a place where you can grab a kit.
What to expect?
It will feature Australia’s very first Minifigure Factory, where you can create LEGO versions of yourself (or whoever you choose).
“The immersive new store will feature creative play experiences, with playful nods to Australian culture, that are sure to create lasting memories for every Aussie or visitors from around the world,” said Troy Taylor, VP and GM at Lego Australia and NZ.
How will it be?
The store will be home to exclusive large-format brick-built features that draw inspiration from local architecture, with the design based on ‘Stories of Australia’. Some of the Lego’s retail experience include Storytelling Table, where customers can access ‘behind-the-scenes’ through interviews and videos displayed on screens, and Personalization Studio, where visitors can experience the first Lego Minifigure Factory in Australia. You can also expect the obligatory Pick & Build Wall, hands-on play areas, Australia-centric features such as massive sculptures referencing the culture, in-store builds and monthly events.

Mission
“Supporting the LEGO Group’s mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow, the immersive new store will offer creative play experiences with playful nods to Australian culture that are sure to create lasting memories for everyone,” said Troy Taylor, Vice President & General Manager of LEGO ANZ.
The world’s largest LEGO store — and soon-to-be the country’s flagship location for bricked fun — will officially open its doors in Sydney Arcade, overlooking Pitt Street Mall, sometime later this year. Perhaps it’ll be worth making the pilgrimage just for the epic 2,083-piece Concorde set.

The name is derived from the Danish expression “Leg godt”, which means “Play well”. It’s a special coincidence that the Latin word means “to fold. The first LEGO figures were produced in 1975, but they were dolls without faces or genders, unlike today’s modern, colorful characters. The figures we know today were introduced in 1978. The first was a police officer for the LEGO City set. The world’s LEGO population reached 4 billion between 1978 and 2006. At this rate, e.g. in 2019 there was more LEGO characters than people on earth!
