🏝️ Santorini in the Desert? Its Twin Appears in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪🇬🇷
The sight of white, domed buildings cascading into crystal blue waters is instantly reminiscent of Santorini, Greece. However, the hotter desert breeze and Arabic signage hint at the reality: Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Here, the Anantara Santorini Abu Dhabi Retreat, a new luxury resort entirely inspired by the famous Greek island, opened its doors this February.
Inside and out, the resort is a world of white, beige, and blue, complete with arched corridors and doorways. Bespoke artwork, ambient music, and detailed embroidery on linens all contribute to a Mediterranean fantasy. However, according to General Manager Rachid Bakas, it’s Abu Dhabi’s natural beauty, particularly the color of the sea, that truly connects the two locations, making the Santorini concept a perfect fit.
While replicas aren’t typically associated with luxury, the Anantara Santorini might be an exception. Its lowest-priced room costs around $800 per night, double the average of Santorini hotels in high season. The resort offers exclusivity, intimacy, and tranquility, a contrast to the often-crowded Greek island in summer. With only 22 rooms, the aim is for guests to unwind and enjoy peace.
