Hungarian Citizen Charged with Killing Two People in Florida
A Hungarian citizen is accused of killing two people in Florida. One of the murders took place on November 21, 2024, in an apartment in Miami Beach. According to the arrest warrant filed by the investigator, Zsolt Zsolyomi was in a romantic relationship with the murdered 66-year-old Carlos Villaquiran. The messages revealed that the victim accused Zsolyomi of theft and using a false name. Later, he is believed to have discovered Zsolyomi’s true identity. In the messages, authorities found several suspicious messages and a revealing photo of Villaquiran with an injured eye.
The accused initially denied causing the injury, but eventually, amidst apologies, said this about what happened: “Sometimes I don’t know what I’m doing when I’m drunk.” The victim left several messages for Zsolyomi, asking him to return his cell phone and other valuables before he filed a police report. A month later, Villaquiran was found dead in his bathtub by his family. The autopsy revealed that Villaquiran suffered internal injuries on both sides of his neck, as well as rib and vertebral fractures, indicating strangulation. The fingerprints found here led authorities to another murder, also in Miami. The murdered 71-year-old Rodolfo Fernandez was found dead in the driver’s seat of a Kia Soul after the vehicle crashed into something. The report said both front seat belts were wrapped around the victim’s neck. Surveillance cameras recorded Zsolyomi getting out of the passenger seat after the accident, and his fingerprints remained on the car.
Police emphasized that both victims were elderly people with mobility impairments and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Authorities later determined that Zsolyomi appeared in the footage from the crime scene with blonde-dyed hair. They claim that Zsolyomi is illegally present in the United States, as he overstayed his visa. The killer was arrested on Wednesday night in downtown Miami and appeared in court on Friday morning, where the judge ordered his detention without bail. During this, the accused confessed to the crimes. Authorities believe he may be linked to other potential victims and are asking people with any information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
