Do You Stay The Same No Matter Where You Go?
Many who move abroad say: “I’m starting a new life, no looking back!” or “I don’t care what’s happening back home anymore!” And yet, they often find themselves reading the news, debating public issues, searching for deli stores, or sharing their experiences in Facebook groups. But why?
Is it our culture, our language, or our memories that hold us back? Or is it simply impossible to completely detach from where we grew up? Can you truly leave forever, or do your roots stay with you no matter where life takes you?
For many, living abroad feels liberating—new opportunities, a different mindset, maybe even less stress. Yet, most people eventually look back—if for no other reason than the fact that they think in their mother tongue, and old habits are hard to break. But is this nostalgia, homesickness, or a deeper bond that can never truly be let go?
💬 What do you think? Do you live abroad but still keep up with the events back at home? Do you still feel that national spirit within you? Or have you managed to completely disconnect? Share your thoughts in the comments! 👇
