A Historic Moment for Hungary!

Exciting news! Hungary is on the verge of sending its second astronaut into space.

On May 29th, Tibor Kapu will embark on a journey to the International Space Station, launching from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Tibor, a 33-year-old mechanical engineer and research astronaut with a background in battery development in the automotive industry, is poised to make history.

His upcoming mission follows an intensive two-year training and selection process in Hungary, complemented by eight months of rigorous preparation in the United States. Tibor is dedicated to highlighting the exceptional talent within Hungary and its scientific community on a global scale.

This event marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in 44 years that a Hungarian will travel to space – a moment not seen since Bertalan Farkas’s voyage aboard Soyuz-36 in May 1980.
