Wigs and Fake IDs: Woman Took Citizenship Test for Others
A 61-year-old London woman has been arrested for allegedly taking the British citizenship test on behalf of others at least 14 times. The woman used wigs and makeup to disguise herself and was paid for her services. Authorities believe this is one of the largest-scale cheating schemes of its kind.
The British citizenship test is a 24-question exam that covers British history, culture, and values. The Home Office says the test is meant to ensure that applicants have adequate knowledge to become British citizens.
Authorities became suspicious when they noticed that someone had taken the test multiple times at different testing centres between June 2022 and August 2023. A search of the woman’s home revealed fake identity documents.
The woman is suspected of taking the test on behalf of both men and women. The Home Office says the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected.
