He made a lot of money from these films, but somehow his wife managed to eat up this huge fortune. Even their house was auctioned off, and it took a long time for Watanabe to get back on his feet. They divorced after the incident, of course, as it is a great shame in Asia. It is, of course, just an anomaly and the truth is, that in a large percentage of cases, the ladies of Asia are very clever in the way they divide up the wealth entrusted to them. The husband is not, deprived – of course, he just has to indicate what he needs.
The tradition
This tradition goes back to the fact that in the old days, the measure of wealth in Asia was rice. Bags of rice were the measure of wealth. As rice was food, it was naturally left to women to manage. Another reason is that dealing with “money” is degrading for an Asian man. He doesn’t like to deal with it, and in the vast majority of cases they don’t handle it very well. Such “menial” things are left to the women.
The Asian way of life
The Asian upbringing is totally different from the western one. To this day, women are brought up to believe that the most important thing for them is to run the household, to manage the family and to manage material goods properly. Thus, men have no other task than to create the material conditions and maintain the family.
To do this, his wife provides him with all the conditions, even exercising some implicit control over her husband. Let’s face it, that’s not such a bad thing, because a woman can think more rationally than a man. There is less chance of her making rash decisions that jeopardise the family’s financial security. Of course, we saw a counter-example of this in the case of Watanabe, but there his wife was caught in the winds of the ‘declining’ West. Spreading money around is a world of irresponsible extravagance, which is still unheard of in Asia today.
Keep the family together
Nevertheless, we cannot say that women are oppressed and are respected, because in Asia they have already realised how difficult it is to manage and keep the family together. It is a much greater responsibility than that of the husband to provide the material conditions, although this should not be underestimated.
It has become very fashionable in the Western world to ‘get’ an Asian wife. This is not just because of sexuality, although that is also a big factor. Men are beginning to realise how comfortable it is to have nothing to worry about, nothing to do, just money to earn. They don’t have to do anything else because their wife does it for them. They don’t have to worry about money, if they want something they signal, and they get it, because an Asian wife has an incredible way of respecting her husband.
This may be shocking to us, but they live a much more balanced life than in Western societies. In the West, men have often become so soft that they expect women not only to manage the household but also to provide the money. It is also the ladies’ fault, because they should not let it go on, because if it goes on like this they will become completely masculinized and men will become….I don’t know what will become of them!?
