UK Visa Application: A Guide to Translation Requirements
When submitting a visa application, document translation is a crucial step. The main rule is that all documents that are not in English must be translated. It is essential that translations are provided exclusively by official translators. Translations by relatives, spouses, or those living at the same address as the applicant are not acceptable.
Official translations must include a statement confirming that the translation is a true and accurate representation of the original, the translator’s name, signature, the date of the translation, the translator’s contact details, and their registration number. The applicant cannot translate their own documents, even if they have professional translator qualifications. Full translations are always required; translations of only the “essential” parts are not sufficient. No separate authentication (e.g., from a notary) is necessary, and the location of the application (inside or outside the country) does not affect the translation requirements.
