UK Travel Authorization

All travellers, including infants and children, must apply for an ETA. You can also apply for others, such as your child or spouse.

To submit your application, you will need a photo of your passport’s biodata page and a portrait photo taken no more than 3 months ago.

Once the application is submitted, the fee is non-refundable! Travel smart and safe!

Most travellers need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter or transit through any airport in the United Kingdom.

Whether you can obtain travel authorisation depends on:

  • Your travel dates
  • The nationality in your passport

You do not need an ETA if you:

  • Have a visa
  • Have permission to live, work, or study in the UK (including settled or pre-settled status or right of abode)
  • Are transiting through a UK airport and do not pass through border control – if you’re unsure, check with your airline
  • Are a British or Irish citizen
  • Are travelling with a passport for British overseas territories citizens
  • Live in Ireland and are travelling from Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
  • Are a child travelling on a France-UK school trip travel document

Dual Nationals

If you are a British or Irish dual national, you do not need an ETA, but you must prove your travel authorisation with:

  • A valid British passport
  • A valid Irish passport
  • Another valid passport that includes proof of eligibility

What You’re Entitled to with an ETA

With an ETA, you can:

  • Stay in the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business, or short-term studies
  • Stay in the UK for up to 3 months under the Creative Worker visa concession
  • Transit through a UK airport if you need to go through border control – if you’re unsure, check with your airline

If you are coming to the UK for other reasons, please check if you might need a visa instead. Everyone’s situation and circumstances are different; to determine your visa requirements, you will need an immigration agent!

An ETA does not guarantee entry into the UK. You will still need to: undergo checks at border crossing, and use the ePassport gate.
