Trump Proposes $5 Million ‘Gold Card’ Visas for Wealthy Foreigners, Raising Concerns

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a new visa initiative called the “Trump Gold Card,” which would allow wealthy foreigners, including Russian oligarchs, to pay $5 million to gain permanent residency and a path to U.S. citizenship. The move aims to reduce the national deficit by replacing the current foreign investor visa program, in place since 1990.

Trump revealed the plan during a press event on February 25, stating that the Gold Card would provide Green Card privileges without requiring direct investment into U.S. businesses. Instead, the funds would flow directly into government coffers to help reduce the nation’s deficit, which currently stands at $1.32 trillion.

While similar “golden visa” schemes exist in Europe, critics warn that such programs could open the door to organized crime. Analysts are concerned about the potential for wealthy criminals to enter the U.S., with doubts about the legitimacy of the funds being used to purchase the Gold Card.

Trump’s administration plans to implement the scheme by mid-March, expecting interest from corporate giants like Apple, especially in securing foreign talent. However, experts argue that while the initiative could bring immediate revenue, it might pose long-term risks to national security and transparency.

Additionally, the program is being compared to similar efforts in Europe, many of which have been shut down due to concerns about security risks and the influx of illicit funds. Despite this, Trump remains confident that the Gold Card will be a financial success and has expressed optimism about its potential to attract wealthy investors to the U.S.
