Every year, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) compiles a list of the world’s most liveable cities. It ranks 173 cities on 30 factors relating to quality of life.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its annual ranking
The world’s most liveable cities in 2023 are:
1. Vienna, Austria
2. Copenhagen, Denmark
3. Melbourne, Australia
4. Sydney, Australia
5. Vancouver, Canada
6. Zurich, Switzerland
7. Calgary, Canada
8. Geneva, Switzerland
9. Toronto, Canada
10. Osaka, Japan
11. Auckland, New Zealand
The EIU’s livability rankings assess a city’s performance across five factors: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Vienna has topped the list for the ninth time in the past 10 years, thanks to its high scores in all five factors. The city is known for its excellent public transportation, affordable housing, and vibrant cultural scene.
Copenhagen is another city that consistently ranks high on the livability index. The Danish capital is known for its green spaces, bike-friendly streets, and focus on sustainability.
Melbourne and Sydney are two of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia. Both cities offer a mix of urban and natural attractions, from world-class museums and restaurants to pristine beaches and national parks.
Vancouver is a beautiful city located on the west coast of Canada. It is known for its mild climate, stunning scenery, and diverse population.
If you are looking for a city that offers a good balance of livability, culture, and tourism, then any of these cities would be a great choice.
Vienna
The historic center of Vienna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many famous landmarks, such as the Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and the Schönbrunn Palace. The city also has a vibrant cultural scene, with world-class opera, ballet, and theater.
Copenhagen
Copenhagen is known for its pedestrian-friendly streets and bike lanes. The city is also home to a number of world-famous attractions, such as the Little Mermaid statue, Tivoli Gardens amusement park, and the Carlsberg Brewery.
Melbourne
Melbourne is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene. The city is home to the National Gallery of Victoria, the Melbourne Museum, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Melbourne is also a popular sporting city, hosting the Australian Open Tennis Tournament and the Melbourne Cup horse race.
Sydney
Sydney is home to some of Australia‘s most iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The city also has a number of beautiful beaches, such as Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. Sydney is a popular tourist destination for its beaches, vibrant nightlife, and its diverse cultural attractions.

Toronto
Toronto is the largest city in Canada and is known for its diverse population, its vibrant arts and culture scene, and its many sports teams. Toronto is best known for being a largely multicultural and ethnically diverse city. Over half of Toronto’s population of 2.9 million were born outside of Canada, and 30% of residents speak a language other than French or English – totaling around 160 languages! Interestingly enough, in some neighborhoods, such as Little Italy, Little Portugal, and Chinatown, the street signs are presented in multiple languages.
Osaka
Osaka is Japan’s second city. As well as the central business hub in western Japan, Osaka has been at the heart of Japan’s cultural and economic development for hundreds of years. With relics from the city’s past still standing, Osaka is a city where you can truly feel Japan’s history. Osaka is also the city of comedies. With comedy styles such as manzai originating in Osaka and gaining popularity throughout the rest of the country, Osaka has taken center stage as ‘the city with the friendliest and funniest people in Japan’.
Auckland
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand and is known for its stunning harbor, its volcanic landscape, and its many beaches. Auckland is a multi-cultural urban oasis of food, music, arts and culture. It’s where sparkling waters and lush landscapes meet city sophistication.

The Ferris wheel on the Prater in Vienna is one of the city’s symbols. From a height of almost 65 meters, it offers a breathtaking view of the city. The Giant Ferris Wheel was erected in 1897 to commemorate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the accession of Emperor Franz Joseph to the throne. Since then, it has been an integral part of the cityscape. It is located at the very top of the Wurstelprater, and from the carriages you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and the Prater.
