Skype is Ending: Everything You Need to Know About the Teams Transition
Skype is being discontinued: a chapter closes in May as Microsoft moves users to the Teams platform. The promised transition is seamless, but not all data will appear in the new location. Microsoft has set up a support page with detailed information about the migration.
An interim period begins, during which Skype and free Teams users can communicate with each other. Skype users will receive notifications to transition to Teams. Microsoft highlights Teams’ extra features, like meetings and calendar management.
The migration is designed to be simple, allowing users to log into Teams with existing Skype profiles, transferring contacts and chats, with the exclusion of work/school chats, and conversations with one self. Parallel use is possible until May 5, but not recommended by Microsoft. Skype data will be deleted after January 2026 unless exported or deleted sooner.
