UK entry permit
All travellers, including infants and children, must apply for an ETA. You can also apply for an ETA for other people, for example: your child, your spouse.
To apply, you will need a photocopy of your passport and a photo of your face no more than 3 months old.
Once the application has been submitted, no refund is possible!
Travel smart and safe!
Most travellers require a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK or to transfer at any airport in the country.
Whether you can get an entry permit depends on:
- the date of travel
- the nationality on your passport
You do not need an ETA if:
- you have a visa
- you have permission to live, work or study in the UK (including settled or pre-established status or residency)
- you are travelling through an airport in the UK and you are not going through border control – if you are not sure, check with the airline
- if you are a British or Irish national
- if you are travelling on a British Overseas Territories passport
- you live in Ireland and are travelling from Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- if you are a child travelling on a France-UK school trip, travel form
Dual citizenships
If you are a British or Irish dual national, you do not need an ETA, but you will need to provide proof that your travel permit is one:
- a valid British passport
- a valid Irish passport
- other valid passport with proof of eligibility
What you are entitled to do with an ETA
- You can stay in the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study
- stay in the UK for up to 3 months under the Creative Worker visa waiver
- transit through a UK airport if you have to go through border control – if you are not sure, check with the airline
If you are coming to the UK for another reason, check whether you might need a visa instead. Everyone’s situation and circumstances are different, you will need an immigration agent to determine your visa requirements!
ETA does not guarantee entry to the UK. You will still need to: check at the border, use the ePassport gateway.
