Mandatory Public Social Media for H-1B Visa Applicants Starting Dec. 15

Effective December 15, 2025, a crucial new requirement will be implemented for all applicants seeking the H-1B non-immigrant visa and their dependents (H-4 visa) intending to travel to the United States.

To facilitate the vetting process for identity verification and entry into the U.S., the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has mandated that all applicants must set their social media accounts to a public privacy setting.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant work visa necessary for foreign nationals travelling to the U.S. to work in a pre-arranged, speciality occupation requiring specialised knowledge. This new rule expands the scope of the visa application screening process, granting authorities access to applicants’ online activity. Those affected must comply with this mandatory public social media requirement starting December 15.
