Lufthansa Group Tightens Rules: Restrictions on Power Banks
The Lufthansa Group is introducing new safety regulations: starting January 15, the use and charging of external batteries (power banks) will be prohibited on all group airlines for the entire duration of the flight. The decision is driven by the increasing fire risk posed by lithium batteries and a rise in international aviation incidents involving smoking or igniting devices.
Passengers may now carry a maximum of two such devices, which are strictly prohibited from being left in overhead luggage bins. Instead, they must be kept under the seat, in the seat pocket, or on the passenger’s person. These restrictions also apply to e-cigarettes, with exceptions granted only for batteries powering vital medical equipment.
