Fire Erupts on U.S. Tanker Off British Coast in North Sea

Dramatic events unfolded off the British coast in the North Sea, at the Humber Estuary near the shores of East Yorkshire, on Monday morning. A U.S.-flagged oil tanker, MV Stena Immaculate, caught fire after colliding with a Portuguese cargo ship, MV Solong. The tanker was carrying jet fuel and was at anchor when the incident occurred.

The distress call was issued at 9:48 AM, triggering a large-scale rescue operation. The British Coastguard (HM Coastguard) dispatched lifeboats and a rescue helicopter to the scene. The tanker’s crew was evacuated, and there have been no reports of injuries so far.

Authorities are currently working to contain the flames and prevent fuel from spilling into the sea. The rescue operation involves numerous organizations, including the Humberside Coastguard rescue helicopter, lifeboats, the HM Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft, and nearby vessels with firefighting capabilities.

The exact cause of the collision is under investigation. Footage from the scene shows flames spreading onto the water, and the ship’s crew issued a Mayday distress call. British authorities continue to work on resolving the situation.
