⛰️ Climber Rescued Twice on Mount Fuji in One Week After Phone Quest 📱
A 27-year-old Chinese university student had to be rescued twice in one week from Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji. The Tokyo resident was first airlifted from near the summit on April 22nd after losing his crampons and falling ill.
Undeterred, he returned to the peak on Saturday to search for his lost cellphone and other belongings. Another climber spotted him on the Fujinomiya trail, around 10,170 feet high, shaking and with abrasions. On Sunday, rescuers carried him down about 2,600 feet on a stretcher before transferring him to an emergency team.
The man was attempting to climb Mount Fuji outside of its official climbing season. Authorities emphasize the importance of preparation for climbing Mount Fuji, where six climbers died in July last year alone.
