US Terminates Family Reunification Parole Programs for Seven Countries
The U.S. government is tightening its borders by ending the Family Reunification Parole (FRP) programs for nationals from Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras, effective January 14, 2026.
According to the USCIS, these programs allowed individuals to bypass traditional parole processes without sufficient vetting. The administration views this move as a necessary step to curb “chain migration” and prevent fraud. By ending these programs, the government aims to return to a case-by-case assessment model, aligning with the “America First” principle.
A silver lining for many applicants is that the termination of these specific programs may free up green card slots for other categories, potentially streamlining legal immigration for different groups of professionals and workers.
