China Eases Visa Rules: More Countries Granted Visa-Free Entry!

China has significantly eased its entry policies, now allowing citizens from 74 countries to enter visa-free for up to 30 days. Beijing’s aim with this move is to boost tourism and the economy, while also strengthening its international soft power. This marks an unprecedented relaxation of its inbound travel regulations.

In 2024, over 20 million foreign visitors entered China visa-free, accounting for nearly a third of all visitors and more than double the previous year’s figures. The recent expansions have seen more European, Latin American, and Middle Eastern nations added to the list, with Azerbaijan’s inclusion on July 16 bringing the total to 75 countries. While most of China’s tourist attractions still see a greater number of domestic visitors, these relaxed rules are expected to attract a growing influx of international travellers.

Many of these visa-free entry options are part of a one-year trial period. Interestingly, no major African countries have yet received visa-free status.
